Effective January 1, 2013, we will once again lose insurance benefits and most people will have no clue this is coming.

The new Florida PIP Statute adds a new definition which states: “Emergency medical condition” means a medical condition manifesting itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity, which may include severe pain, such that the absence of immediate medical attention could reasonably be expected to result in any of the following:

(a) Serious jeopardy to patient health

(b) Serious impairment to bodily functions

(c) Serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part

If it is determined that you do NOT have an “Emergency medical condition” then guess what? Your maximum PIP benefit gets reduced from $10,000. down to $2,500! WOW, I can see those insurance companies smiling from here.

There many more details regarding this issue that we will discuss in a later blog.
